Rachel Kimmel – Vice President of Professional Development

What is your role? Give us a brief description of what you do in your role.

As the vice president of professional development I cover three main areas in my role: ethics, professional development and Student-run Firms. I provide informational programming and educational resources regarding professional development. I am also in charge of running the Ethics Competition that promotes the PRSA Code of Ethics. With Student-run Firms, I help both regular firms and the Nationally Affiliated Firms with anything they may need.

What does a typical day look like for you as a PRSSA National Committee member?

An average day in my role would consist of responding to emails from firms, Chapter presidents or members. I usually work on planning upcoming projects, scheduling meetings and attending events.

What has been your favorite project/initiative to work on so far?

My favorite project has been the Ethics Competition just because I created it. I’ve been able to shape and mold it into something that people want to take part in.

What has been the most challenging aspect of your role so far?

Most challenging part of my role thus far has been trying to figure out fun, new ways to present information to members. You want to be able to give members the tools and information they need to succeed so that  the information isn’t lost in the process.

What advice would you share with your future successor?

Really embrace the role and position you are in. This experience is unlike any other and is a great way to grow as a young professional.

Anything else you would like to share?

Don’t forget to have fun.
