The beautiful San Diego Bay was founded in 1769 when the Spanish started to build missions across California. On Sept. 9, 1850, California was granted statehood by the United States of America. Shortly after, San Diego’s population steadily grew during the 1860s, which then led to the establishment of the city hall in 1874.
From its white sandy beaches to its delicious food, San Diego is regarded as “The Finest City in America.” With endless activities to do in the city, you will be sure to have a great time during your stay for the International Conference.
Here are the top five things to do in San Diego:
Visit Little Italy.
Have you ever dreamed of going abroad to Italy and enjoying the authentic Italian cuisine? You might as well head down to Little Italy with your Chapter and eat at one of the many restaurants. The food is delicious and will be sure to fill you up. But make sure you leave room for gelato!
Head over to Balboa Park!
The opportunities at Balboa Park are endless. There are over 10 museums at Balboa Park along with gardens, shopping and live entertainment. Balboa Park is a great place to sit and have a picnic with friends.
Enjoy a good scare? Visit the historic Whaley House.
The Whaley House was built in 1857 by Thomas Whaley. The house served as a granary and a courtroom. The Whaley House also has been deemed haunted and has appeared on several paranormal television shows. This site offers a private, after dark experience to visitors wanting a good thrill!
Stay golden under the California sun.
California is sunny 90 percent of the year, which is why many people head to the beach during their free time. The temperature will most likely still be warm during the International Conference, therefore you should pack light for when you go out at night. Don’t forget to grab your sunscreen and your favorite pair of flip-flops; we like to keep things casual.
Chill out at Seaport Village.
Are you looking for a relaxing evening after a long and exciting day at Conference? Get together with your PRSSA pals at Seaport Village to shop around for authentic San Diego merchandise while watching the sunset!
The fun doesn’t end once sessions have concluded for the day during the International Conference. San Diego has many exciting places to check out after Conference hours that you don’t want to miss. Don’t forget, register by Sept. 6 to receive the early registration fee.We cannot wait to see you here!

Kayla Fernandez is proudly serving as the Conference coordinator for the PRSSA 2019 International Conference. She is the main communicator for the Conference and will assist in implementing new ideas through a fresh perspective.
Kayla has been a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America since fall 2017. Through PRSSA, she has volunteered for California State University Fullerton’s (CSUF) PRSSA Regional Conference: Next Generation PR, the Anaheim GardenWalk, Powerhouse Communication and CSUF PRSSA’s annual Halloween Mixer.
She currently serves as the vice president of sponsorship and fundraising. During the first semester of her academic term, she has continued to foster relationships with CSUF PRSSA’s top sponsors. Her goal for the rest of the academic year is to not only continue to maintain relationships with current sponsors and partners of PRSSA but to gain new relationships for the years to come. She plans to accomplish this goal by creating an effective communications plan when it comes to pitching via email and over the phone.
Outside of PRSSA, Fernandez studied abroad during the summer of 2018 where she worked closely with professors in order to gain insight into Italian media studies as well as global tourism. With this experience she was able to understand the international market of tourism and how it affects the economic well-being of the world.
She continues to excel in her studies as a cinema and television arts major with a minor in public relations. She is excited to see what other opportunities will arise in the next year.
