PRSA And PRSSA Ethics Month Recap: “Encouraging Ethical Behavior”

Another September has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean ethics should. Just in case you missed it, I’ve rounded up September’s Ethics Month activities.

Here is what took place:

 •  Much of September focused on applying ethical standards globally. We saw it first in the PRSA International Ethics Twitter chat (you can find the transcript here) where PRSA and PRSSA members discussed the differences in public relations codes and guidelines in other countries.
 • Then it was also touched on at our very own PRSSA Ethics Twitter chat (read the transcript for that, too). At our Twitter chat, we discussed how guidelines like the PRSA Code of Ethics have changed the work place, and how Chapters were encouraging ethical behavior on the local level.
 • PRSA also offered this month’s webinar, “Ethical Solutions to Questionable PR Practices,” to all PRSSA students for free. It will be available for on-demand playback starting October 3. The webinar focused on recent examples of unethical practice in the profession, highlighted in the news.

Did you involve ethics at a Chapter meeting? If you did, you are one step closer to the Star Chapter Award. If you didn’t, there is still time to do an ethics session. Email me if you’d like some guidance or I can Skype in with your Chapter.
