Regional Activity Update: University of Southern Mississippi

Are you wondering how to stand out to employers in this tough economy? The PRSSA University of Southern Mississippi Chapter is focused on answering that question at their first Regional Activity.

The answer is tied to your use and knowledge of tools that are utterly foreign to many who graduated just five years ago. The answer? Social media.

But we know what you’re thinking: “That can’t be all?” and you’re right. Just knowing how to use Facebook and Twitter isn’t enough. Employers want to know that you can use social media tools to help their clients increase business awareness.

At our Regional Activity, “Navigating Social Media: PeRsonal to Professional,” April 9–10, we will help you learn how to use your social media talent strategically. Experienced public relations practitioners from top companies across the country will share their expertise through a variety of presentations.

One such professional is Mona Amodeo. She’s a powerhouse public relations professional, the creator of Branding from the Core® and the founder and president of award winning firm, idgroup Inc. She specializes in branding and brand management and is headed to our Regional Activity to share her tips with you.

Another is Jay Massey, founder and CVO of Coco Design and Coco Government Services (Coco GS). Massey, a Florida native, has lived and worked around the United States and Europe. He will be speaking on Linkedin and the power of online portfolios. It is a session you won’t want to miss.

Lindsay Reynolds implements social media marketing for Southwest Airlines. She maintains their Facebook Fanpage and blog, “Nuts about Southwest.” She comes to us from Texas and will be the keynote speaker during Saturday’s lunch. This expert will share her experiences using social media in a real-world, business public relations setting.

Natalie Neczypor, business development coordinator at ParenteBeard LLC, is on her way to Hattiesburg, Pa. If you attended the National Conference in San Diego, Calif., last November, you may remember her. She will be speaking on Friday afternoon on how to emphasize social media expertise in the portfolio. I know firsthand that she is an extremely knowledgeable and engaging speaker. Can’t wait to hear what she has to share.

The conference will be two intense days of workshops including social media usage reviews from the experts, a meet-and-greet social at a popular bar and restaurant, The Bottling Company, and a scholarship competition. For a full list of our speakers visit the USM PRSSA Web site, http://usm-prssaregionalactivity.webs.com.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to find out how you can use the skills you already have to dazzle potential employers. You already have the ability. This conference will show you how to use it effectively to get a job.
