2018 Community Service Initiative: Assistance League of Austin

Every year at National Conference, PRSSA makes an effort to give back to the community that the Society will be visiting. Last year in Boston, PRSSA partnered with Rosie’s Place, a local women’s shelter. Students donated $2,500 worth of female hygiene products during Conference.

This year the Society will be partnering with the Assistance League of Austin to host a Toy Cart for children who have extended stays in hospitals due to severe illnesses. The toys will be for both the children in the hospitals and their families.

The mission of this organization states, “With care and commitment, Assistance League of Austin improves the well-being of our community – one child, one teen, one adult at a time,” according to their website.

So how can you as a student or Chapter get involved? Bring new, unopened toys for the Toy Cart at Conference this year. These toys do not need to be expensive; items within the $10 to $20 range will be acceptable. The goal is to provide Assistance League of Austin with as many items as possible to ensure sick children and their families have a plethora of gifts to choose from.

Here are some ideas for toys you can donate.

Legos

Dolls

Matchbox cars

Puzzles and games

Costume jewelry

Mittens or gloves

Picture frames

Hats or scarves

Art supplies

Ties

This is not a comprehensive list so feel free to use your imagination. No matter what you bring, it will help better the Austin community around you. Help us, help Austin!
