Running for the PRSSA National Committee: Take the Leap and Lead

The Positions You Can Run For 

PRSSA offers several vice president positions, each with a unique focus. Here are the positions you can run for: 

  1. VP of Belonging, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (BEDI): Advocate for a welcoming, inclusive community within PRSSA, ensuring all members feel seen, heard and appreciated. 
  1. VP of Brand Engagement: Secure PRSSA brand engagement through internal and external publications such as the National blog, Progressions, and PRSSA Podcasts. 
  1. VP of Career Services: Assist members in securing internships, jobs, mentors and other career opportunities. Manage the PRSSA Internship Center. 
  1. VP of Chapter Development: Support and guide Chapters across the continent, helping them thrive while fostering connections. Also, manage PRSSA’s Community Service Initiative. 
  1. VP of Digital Communications: Manage and enhance PRSSA’s digital presence, ensuring it remains engaging and impactful for members and beyond. 
  1. VP of Events and Fundraising: Coordinate and support activities such as District Conferences, cross-Chapter interaction and Chapter fundraising and sponsorships. 
  1. VP of Member Services: Assist Chapters with recruitment, manage the Affiliate Membership program and promote scholarships and awards, competitions and High School Outreach. 
  1. VP of Professional Development: Promote and manage programs that facilitate the growth and development of Student-run Firms and advocate for ethics in the field of public relations. 

No matter what you’re passionate about in the PR world, there’s a role for you on the National Committee! 

How to Get Started 

Ready to run? Here’s how to get started: 

  1. Submit the National Committee Interest Form 

The first step to running for National Committee is to submit the interest form. This allows you to express your interest, connect with current National Committee members and learn more about the process. 

  1. Make Sure You Meet the Requirements and Do Your Research 

Before you apply, it’s important to check that you meet the following requirements: 

  • Be a member in good standing of a PRSSA Chapter and maintain your membership throughout your term. 
  • All National Committee members must attend the International Conference and Leadership Assembly. PRSSA will cover travel and hotel costs, but you are responsible for any additional costs. 
  • Be a full-time student from the time you are elected through the fall semester of your term. 

Take the time to familiarize yourself with the National Committee Job Descriptions and the PRSSA Situation Analysis. Understanding these will help you feel confident and prepared for the role you’re aiming for. 

  1. Submit Your Application 

Once you’ve done your research and feel ready, complete the Candidate Nomination Form and submit all required materials. Be sure to submit all candidate materials by 2 p.m. ET on Monday, February 10. This deadline is crucial, so make sure to plan ahead and submit everything on time! 

  1. Attend Leadership Assembly in Charlotte, NC 

Mark your calendar for March 6–8! All candidates must attend Leadership Assembly in Charlotte, North Carolina. During this time, you’ll participate in a Q&A session, and then the Chapter Delegates will vote for next year’s National Committee.

Milagros Orcoyen, PRSSA National President, is a senior at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in Buenos Aires, Argentina, poised to graduate in December 2024 with a major in public relations and institutional communication.

Her PRSSA journey began as a freshman, driven by a passion for professional growth and community engagement. Previously serving as the PRSSA National Vice President of Events and Fundraising, Milagros received The Elaine Averick Outstanding National Committee Member Award for her leadership.

Outside of PRSSA, she dedicates her time to sustainability efforts at GEO, the University of Buenos Aires’ sustainable development center, and contributes as a writer for The Jane Goodall Institute Argentina.
