District Conference Preview: Know Your PoweR (University of Texas at San Antonio 2023)
The University of Texas San Antonio PRSSA Chapter is honored to be hosting the 2023 Southwest District Conference: Know Your PoweR.
We are excited to announce the Conference will take place from Friday, March 24 to Sunday, March 26 at the UTSA Main Campus on 1604. The hybrid event will include an online attendance option for attendees who can’t make it in person.
The UTSA Chapter will host a Game Night on Friday evening to start off the Conference events. This will give attendees an opportunity to meet in a relaxed setting.
Saturday is a full day of career development workshops and networking opportunities. Branding and Professionalism will focus on guiding attendees on how to identify their passions, create and establish their brand, and present themselves in the PR world. How to Land Your Dream Job is an interactive workshop on resume “do’s” and “don’ts,” how to dress the part, and how to ace a job interview. Attendees should consider bringing hard copies of their resumes for our guest speaker to review.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Luncheon guest speaker will be Melissa Vela-Williamson, APR. She is an internationally-recognized and accredited award-winning public relations expert, author, and national columnist with almost two decades of general market and multicultural integrated marketing communications experience in agency, corporate, and nonprofit settings. To share the excitement of Melissa’s participation, we invited local high school students to attend the luncheon portion of the Conference. We want to give these students an opportunity to connect with other college students from the surrounding areas.
Saturday events will end with a Night with the Pros. We are inviting San Antonio public relations professionals from all sections of the PR field to participate in our PRO EXPO. This expo will give attendees an opportunity to network, ask questions, and make connections with working PR professionals. Our goal for the expo is to showcase all forms of PR; from sports to entertainment, to public affairs, to non-profit to fashion PR. We will be ending the Conference on Sunday morning with a tour of one of San Antonio’ leading agencies.
We ask attendees to bring their resumes, bring their business cards, and dress in business casual. We encourage everyone to participate in the career development workshops, ask questions, interact with peers, and network with PR professionals.

Angela Sanchez is the Southwest District Conference coordinator and UTSA Chapter president. She has been a PRSSA member since her freshman year. She is a senior at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Upon graduation, Angela will like to pursue a career in Event Planning or Entertainment PR.
