As students and rising professionals, we have a responsibility to ourselves, our co-workers and our clients to live up to the standards of a values-based profession. By investing time and energy in ethics-related programming for our classrooms and workplaces, we are properly preparing the next generation of public relations practitioners for the industry we all know and love.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7397\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7397\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/progressions.prsa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/tumblr_o3fxrqAz7g1v0t6g7o1_500.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7397\" src=\"http:\/\/progressions.prsa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/tumblr_o3fxrqAz7g1v0t6g7o1_500.gif\" alt=\"Courtesy of giphy.com.\" width=\"500\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtesy of giphy.com.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few tips for strengthening a Chapter-wide understanding of ethical behavior and decision-making, both as students and professionals in the workplace:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>1. Invite a guest speaker from PRSA or the <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/prssa.prsa.org\/about\/champions\/\"><b>Champions for PRSSA<\/b><\/a><b> to give a lecture on ethics. <\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is your Chapter interested in earning a Star Chapter recognition? If so, dedicating a meeting to ethics is a great way to engage members and professionals in meaningful conversation \u2014 and fulfill a Star Chapter requirement. Check out the guidelines for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/prssa.prsa.org\/scholarships_competitions\/chapter\/star\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Chapter Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and start your Chapter\u2019s year off strong during the fall semester. Interested in inviting a speaker but unsure where to start? Contact your PRSA sponsor Chapter for potential candidates. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2. Participate in the Ethics Month Competition.<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As PRSSA members, you are invited to try your hand at the Ethics Month Competition, an effort by PRSSA National to get members thinking critically about how ethical decision-making impacts real life. Your responses to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/prssa.prsa.org\/about\/Advocacy\/Ethics\/Ethics%20Month%20Competition%202016.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">case<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are due no later than midnight on Sept. 30, 2016. \u00a0The PRSSA member who most thoughtfully incorporates the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prsa.org\/aboutprsa\/ethics\/codeenglish\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PRSA Code of Ethics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> into their response will be awarded a $50 Amazon gift card.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>3. Participate in the Ethics Twitter chat.<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark your calendars and join fellow PRSSA members and industry professionals for the Millennial Ethics: Workplace Dilemmas &amp; Scenarios Twitter chat, focusing on ethics in our profession. Log in at 9 p.m., EST on Sept. 14 to join the conversation.
