Maybe because your parents made you. Maybe to broaden your horizons. Maybe because you wanted to gain some \u201clife 101\u201d skills while avoiding the real world. While these are all valid reasons, I hope you chose to go to college mostly because you wanted to prepare yourself in knowledge and character for a solid career.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PRSSA wants to play a major part in bridging the gap from college to career. For this reason, we\u2019re launching our first ever <\/span><b>Career Development Month<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this January 2016. As we work to best serve PRSSA members in the third of our core tenants, \u201claunch your career,\u201d we will be giving opportunities for you to learn more about the career development member benefits we offer. This month will include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recruiter advice and profiles shared on Facebook<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fresh Pinterest content on how to impress employers with a resume or interview<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Progressions posts highlighting career tips, \u201chow-to\u201ds and PRSSA resources you may not know about<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The opportunity to have your questions answered in real time, when you tweet using the hashtag #askPRSSACDM between Jan. 18-22<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A \u201cLaunch Your Career\u201d Twitter chat on Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. ET<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Believe us, we know PRSSA members are busy and these career-focused resources can slip completely under the radar. But instead of leaving you to plumb the depths of the PRSSA website and discover the career resources alone, we\u2019re bringing it to you. (Consider it a Happy New Year gift from us.) And do yourself a favor by taking advantage of them. It\u2019s the least you can do when setting resolutions for the new year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From searching internships on the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/prssa.prsa.org\/career\/internships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Internship Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to reading <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/progressions.prsa.org\/index.php\/category\/progressions-city-series\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Progressions City Series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> posts about public relations in specific U.S. locations, to referencing the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/prssa.prsa.org\/career\/_documents\/CareerResourcesManual_2015.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Career Resources Manual<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when trying to figure out how to approach the mystical beast known as a cover letter, you\u2019ll be glad you did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laura Daronatsy is serving as the 2015\u20132016 National President, and is an alumnae of Biola University in La Mirada, California.
