{"id":480,"date":"2010-08-04T18:22:09","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T22:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/blog\/?p=480"},"modified":"2018-08-26T13:40:09","modified_gmt":"2018-08-26T17:40:09","slug":"whats-up-social-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/progressions.prsa.org\/index.php\/2010\/08\/04\/whats-up-social-media\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s Up Social Media?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A series of blog posts discussing new things in social media and how Chapters can take advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Number One:\u00a0 LinkedIn Gets a Makeover and YouTube Allows Easier Editing<\/p>\n<p><strong>LinkedIn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LinkedIn has recently released its first major enhancement since the introduction of \u201cGroups\u201d in August 2008.\u00a0 The new features are intended to make the look and feel of the entire site more enticing, as well as make it easier to use and understand.\u00a0 This\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=F5CF1FEm_oA&amp;feature=player_embedded\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> provides a visual overview of what\u2019s new.\u00a0 This\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.linkedin.com\/2010\/06\/22\/linkedin-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog post<\/a> from LinkedIn goes over the features in greater detail.<\/p>\n<p>What does it mean to you?\u00a0 Your Chapter (or Firm) can take advantage of the Groups because all the updates encourage participation.\u00a0 There are options to \u201clike\u201d a person\u2019s comments and see who has contributed the most in the past week.\u00a0 Users can keep track of discussions chronologically or based on popularity.<\/p>\n<p>Use this as a professional atmosphere in which to foster discussions and decision-making when real-life meetings are hard (i.e. during the summer or holiday breaks).\u00a0 LinkedIn is a great way to have virtual executive board meetings, or just keep in touch with the Chapter in general.\u00a0 As you begin to participate in Groups based around your Chapter and Firm, also branch out into industry groups and discussions where you can learn and contribute.<\/p>\n<p><strong>YouTube<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>YouTube is adding a few updates of its own in the form of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/editor\" target=\"_blank\">new editing tool<\/a> (Note: You will need to sign-in to YouTube to view the tool).\u00a0 Whereas video editing has previously required (expensive) software, now all it takes is a browser.\u00a0 You can trim up the beginning and end, add music and publish multiple clips together with a few simple clicks.<\/p>\n<p>What does it mean to you?\u00a0 YouTube is a powerful way to include as many members as possible in everything you do.\u00a0 Not everyone can make it to Conference? Take some video\u00a0and put it on your Chapter\u2019s YouTube channel.
