How to Make the Most of PRSSA Affiliate Membership."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since 2006, PRSSA has provided an opportunity for college students interested in public relations, but without a university Chapter, to join the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/about\/Join\/#Affiliate\">Affiliate program.<\/a> Through Affiliate membership, students gain access to numerous benefits enjoyed by Chapter members.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a current Affiliate or considering joining PRSSA, here are some tips to make the most of your membership:<\/p>\n<p><b>Build your network<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Without a university Chapter, it can be challenging to develop a sense of PRSSA community. By accessing the PRSSA network, Affiliates can engage with thousands of members and professionals, regardless of geographic location. Here are a few places to start:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Twitter:<\/b> PRSSA members are active Twitter users. Follow the #PRSSA hashtag to join public relations discussions, or join monthly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/news\/social_media\/\">Twitter chats<\/a> to meet new members and learn more about the Society and profession.<\/li>\n<li><b>Events: <\/b>Affiliates are invited to attend National Conference, National Assembly and Regional Conferences, where they can interact with students and professionals from across the nation.<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>PRSA Chapters: <\/b>All PRSSA members and Affiliates are encouraged to connect with their nearest PRSA Chapter for networking and professional development opportunities.<b> <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prsa.org\/Network\/Chapters\/Find\/#.UqzPLI5qI0s\">Access<\/a> your nearest Chapter\u2019s website to get started.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Launch your career<br \/>\n<\/b>Affiliate members have access to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/career\/internships\/\">PRSSA Internship Center<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/career\/prsa_jobcenter\/\">PRSA Jobcenter<\/a>, where they may browse and apply for openings in a variety of locations. Members are also encouraged to use the connections they make while networking to pursue informational interviews, internship opportunities and more.<\/p>\n<p><b>Read about the industry<br \/>\n<\/b>Affiliate members have access to the daily PRSA Issues and Trends email, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prsa.org\/Intelligence\/Tactics\/Issues#.Uq0tXKUwjjA\"><i>Public Relations Tactics<\/i><\/a><i> <\/i>newspaper<i> <\/i>and PRSSA\u2019s Progressions blog and <i>FORUM<\/i> newspaper. Ready to take the next step? Affiliate members are encouraged to build their portfolios by writing for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/news\/forum\/\"><i>FORUM<\/i><\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/news\/Progressions\/writing_for_progressions\/\">Progressions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Consider chartering a Chapter<br \/>\n<\/b>If you attend a four-year accredited university and have at least 10 students interested in joining PRSSA, you may qualify to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/start\/\">start a Chapter<\/a> and gain full access to PRSSA benefits.
