{"id":2451,"date":"2012-05-30T09:26:26","date_gmt":"2012-05-30T15:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.prssa.org\/?p=2451"},"modified":"2012-05-31T14:17:12","modified_gmt":"2012-05-31T20:17:12","slug":"success-through-leadership-transitions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/progressions.prsa.org\/index.php\/2012\/05\/30\/success-through-leadership-transitions\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Ensure Success Through Leadership Transitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now that the semester has come to a close, many Chapters have elected new officers to take over the reins and continue the progress of the previous year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are a few tips to make the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/leaders\/transition\/\">transition<\/a> as smooth and successful as possible.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>So you elected your new executive board \u2026 what\u2019s next? <\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/leaders\/transition\/ChapterOfficerForm.doc\">officer update form<\/a> and send the new officer information to Headquarters. Be sure to communicate the new contact information with your Advisers, university officials and your sponsoring PRSA Chapter.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare items to be passed on to successors; utilize the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/leaders\/transition\/#chart\">CHART guide<\/a> to pass along important information like Chapter history, accomplishments and records to ensure a smooth transition. Don\u2019t forget University documents, National and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/start\/template%20bylaws.doc\">Chapter bylaws<\/a>, professional contacts and speakers, membership rosters and job descriptions.<\/li>\n<li>Hold a transition meeting to talk through positions with old and new executive board. Let the new and old executive board work together to create a task list for the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The new executive board is in place \u2026 what\u2019s next?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"..\/index.php\/2011\/06\/16\/research-for-prssa-planning\/\">Set goals for the new semester<\/a>. Prioritize goals and set deadlines for them. Delegate tasks amongst officers to ensure each goal is reachable.<\/li>\n<li>Make time to bond as a new executive board. A retreat is a great way to become more familiar with each other\u2019s work style and your capabilities. Read through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/leaders\/handbooks\/#Chapter\">PRSSA Chapter Handbook<\/a> to spark new ideas and share information. An updated version of this guide will be available on the PRSSA website in August.<\/li>\n<li>Create a plan for the upcoming semester. Decide which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/chapters\/leaders\/fundraising\/\">fundraisers<\/a> you plan to hold to raise money for Conference, scholarships and Chapter expenses. Also, review and refine your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/about\/Brand\/PRSSA%20Brand%20Identity%20Guidelines.pdf\">Chapter branding<\/a> and connect with your PRSA sponsor Chapter.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, discuss your Chapter\u2019s budgeting needs for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/events\/Conference\/\">National Conference<\/a>. This will be a great learning and bonding experience for your Chapter members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now that you\u2019ve made it through the transition, continue to plan activities and recruit leaders to maximize Chapter growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How does your Chapter transition new leaders?
