I frequently hear from students, \u201cI don\u2019t know who our Professional Adviser is,\u201d or \u201cWe haven\u2019t heard from our Professional Adviser.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Faculty Advisers typically have more visibility and accessibility. You see your Faculty Adviser at Chapter meetings, in the classroom and in his or her office on campus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Your Professional Adviser most likely has a \u201cday job\u201d away from your university and possibly even in another city. You probably don\u2019t see him or her much, but your Professional Adviser is there to support you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Don\u2019t wait for your Professional Adviser to initiate contact with you. PRSSA is your organization, and if you haven\u2019t tapped into the resources available through your Chapter\u2019s Professional Adviser, it\u2019s time to take the initiative and reach out!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What should you expect from your Professional Adviser? Responsibilities include: <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Finding PRSA members to serve as guest speakers at PRSSA meetings and in classes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Inviting students and Faculty Advisers to attend PRSA Chapter meetings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Being available to counsel students on career questions, including job seeking, resume writing and interview techniques.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Arranging for one-on-one contact between PRSSA and PRSA members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Arranging field trips to public relations departments, agencies and media outlets.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How else can you get your Professional Adviser involved? Think about:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Inviting him or her to your e-board meetings (Skype works great if distance is an issue).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Inviting your Professional Adviser to speak at one of your Chapter meetings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Soliciting his or her feedback on your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/scholarships_competitions\/bateman\/\">Bateman Case Study Competition<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Asking for letters of recommendation for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prssa.org\/scholarships_competitions\/\">scholarship or award entries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Getting his or her advice on any Chapter issues you have.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Your Faculty and Professional Advisers offer unique perspectives and both serve as valuable resources for you and your Chapter.
