En el \u00e1rea de las relaciones p\u00fablicas es com\u00fan escuchar acerca de ambos conceptos, pero \u00bfsabes realmente cu\u00e1l es la diferencia? En este art\u00edculo hablaremos un poco de los conceptos, diferencias y c\u00f3mo fortalecer tu marca personal en tu vida personal y profesional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagina que tienes una presentaci\u00f3n importante en la universidad o una entrevista para pr\u00e1cticas preprofesionales. Sabes que no puedes ir vestido de cualquier manera, as\u00ed que eliges cuidadosamente tu ropa, te peinas y practicas una postura de confianza frente al espejo. Eso es la imagen personal: la primera impresi\u00f3n que causas en los dem\u00e1s basada en tu apariencia, lenguaje corporal y forma de comunicarte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La imagen personal es, en esencia, c\u00f3mo te presentas al mundo de manera instant\u00e1nea, y est\u00e1 enfocada en lo que perciben las personas de ti al verte o interactuar contigo en una situaci\u00f3n particular. Asimismo, recordemos que la imagen personal es cambiante y puede variar dependiendo del contexto. Por ejemplo, no te vestir\u00edas igual para una fiesta que para una entrevista de trabajo, \u00bfverdad?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahora, si la imagen personal es la manera en que te ven en el momento, la marca personal es lo que las personas piensan y dicen de ti cuando no est\u00e1s presente. Es la suma de tus habilidades, valores, actitudes y c\u00f3mo has construido una reputaci\u00f3n a lo largo del tiempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mientras que la imagen personal es algo superficial y moment\u00e1nea, la marca personal es m\u00e1s profunda y duradera. Lo podemos definir en una frase:<em> la marca personal es lo que te hace \u00fanico, lo que te distingue del resto<\/em>. Piensa en ello como el \u201cbranding\u201d que usan las empresas para diferenciarse entre miles de productos similares. De la misma manera, tu marca personal te diferencia en el mercado laboral o acad\u00e9mico frente a tus compa\u00f1eros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tal vez pienses que la marca personal es algo que solo les interesa a las personas con a\u00f1os de experiencia o a los famosos, pero la realidad es que t\u00fa ya tienes una marca personal, incluso si no eres consciente de ello. Tus profesores, compa\u00f1eros, amigos e incluso las personas que te siguen en redes sociales ya tienen una percepci\u00f3n de qui\u00e9n eres y qu\u00e9 representas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por ejemplo, si eres conocido por ser la persona que siempre entrega sus trabajos a tiempo y ayuda a los dem\u00e1s a resolver problemas acad\u00e9micos, esa es una parte de tu marca personal. Por el contrario, si eres la persona que siempre llega tarde a clases o nunca participa, eso tambi\u00e9n se convierte en parte de tu marca, pero no precisamente en una positiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahora, profundicemos un poco m\u00e1s en las diferencias entre imagen y marca personal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Duraci\u00f3n y permanencia<\/strong>: mientras que la imagen personal puede cambiar de un momento a otro (seg\u00fan lo que llevas puesto o c\u00f3mo te comportas en un evento), la marca personal se construye con el tiempo y refleja qui\u00e9n eres de manera m\u00e1s profunda.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Percepci\u00f3n superficial vs. percepci\u00f3n duradera<\/strong>: la imagen personal est\u00e1 ligada a lo que los dem\u00e1s ven de ti en el instante. La marca personal, en cambio, es el conjunto de las experiencias, emociones y recuerdos que dejas en los dem\u00e1s a lo largo del tiempo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flexibilidad vs. consistencia<\/strong>: es f\u00e1cil cambiar tu imagen personal. Puedes hacerlo en cuesti\u00f3n de minutos visti\u00e9ndote de manera diferente o cambiando tu lenguaje corporal. Sin embargo, la marca personal necesita consistencia. No puedes cambiar tu marca de un d\u00eda para otro. Requiere tiempo, esfuerzo y autenticidad para que los dem\u00e1s te vean de la manera que deseas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Crear una marca personal no es algo que ocurra de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana, pero s\u00ed es algo que puedes empezar a trabajar desde hoy mismo. Aqu\u00ed te dejo algunos pasos clave:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Define tus valores y metas<\/strong>: \u00bfqu\u00e9 te hace \u00fanico? \u00bfCu\u00e1les son tus metas a largo plazo? Reflexiona sobre tus fortalezas y sobre c\u00f3mo quieres ser percibido. Si te interesa el mundo de las relaciones p\u00fablicas, por ejemplo, deber\u00edas enfocarte en habilidades como la comunicaci\u00f3n efectiva y el networking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>S\u00e9 aut\u00e9ntico<\/strong>: no intentes ser alguien que no eres. Por ejemplo, si te defines como una persona confiable y profesional, tus interacciones diarias y la manera en que te presentas deber\u00edan reforzar ese mensaje.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aprende y evoluciona<\/strong>: tu marca personal no es est\u00e1tica. As\u00ed como t\u00fa creces y aprendes con el tiempo, tu marca personal tambi\u00e9n puede evolucionar. Lo importante es mantener la coherencia entre qui\u00e9n eras y qui\u00e9n te est\u00e1s convirtiendo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanto la imagen personal como la marca personal son herramientas clave para tu desarrollo profesional y acad\u00e9mico. Mientras la imagen te ayuda a causar una buena primera impresi\u00f3n, es tu marca personal la que te permitir\u00e1 dejar una huella duradera en las personas con las que interact\u00faas. In this article, we\u2019ll talk a bit about the concepts, their differences, and how to strengthen your personal brand in both your personal and professional life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine you have an important presentation at school or an interview for an internship. You know you can\u2019t show up dressed any way you like, so you carefully choose your clothes, style your hair, and practice confident posture in front of the mirror. That is personal image: the first impression you make on others based on your appearance, body language, and communication style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personal image is, in essence, how you present yourself to the world instantly, and it focuses on what people perceive of you when they see or interact with you in a specific situation. Also, remember that personal image is changeable and can vary depending on the context. For example, you wouldn\u2019t dress the same way for a party as you would for a job interview, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, if personal image is how you are seen at the moment, personal brand is what people think and say about you when you\u2019re not around. It is the sum of your skills, values, attitudes, and how you have built a reputation over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While personal image is superficial and momentary, personal brand is deeper and long-lasting. We can define it in one phrase: your personal brand is what makes you unique, what sets you apart from the rest. Think of it like the \u201cbranding\u201d that companies use to differentiate themselves among thousands of similar products. Similarly, your personal brand differentiates you in the job or academic market from your peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might think that personal branding is only relevant for people with years of experience or celebrities, but the truth is that you already have a personal brand, even if you\u2019re not aware of it. Your professors, classmates, friends, and even people who follow you on social media already have a perception of who you are and what you represent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you\u2019re known for always turning in your work on time and helping others solve academic problems, that\u2019s part of your personal brand. On the other hand, if you\u2019re the person who\u2019s always late to class or never participates, that also becomes part of your brand, though not necessarily a positive one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, let\u2019s delve a bit deeper into the differences between personal image and personal brand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Duration and permanence:<\/strong> While personal image can change from one moment to the next (depending on what you\u2019re wearing or how you behave at an event), personal brand is built over time and reflects who you are on a deeper level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Superficial perception vs. lasting perception: <\/strong>Personal image is linked to what others see of you in the instant. Personal brand, however, is the sum of the experiences, emotions and memories you leave with others over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flexibility vs. consistency:<\/strong> It\u2019s easy to change your personal image. You can do it in minutes by dressing differently or changing your body language. However, personal branding requires consistency. You can\u2019t change your brand overnight. It takes time, effort and authenticity for others to see you the way you want.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Building a personal brand isn\u2019t something that happens overnight, but it is something you can start working on today. Here are some key steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Define your values and goals: <\/strong>What makes you unique? What are your long-term goals? Reflect on your strengths and how you want to be perceived. If you\u2019re interested in public relations, for example, you should focus on skills like effective communication and networking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be authentic: <\/strong>Don\u2019t try to be someone you\u2019re not. People value authenticity, and if you try to build a personal brand based on a false image, the only thing you\u2019ll achieve is losing credibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take care of your social media presence:<\/strong> In the digital age, your social media accounts are an extension of your personal brand. What you post, comment on, or share builds (or destroys) your reputation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintain consistency:<\/strong> Your personal image should align with your personal brand. For example, if you define yourself as a reliable and professional person, your daily interactions and the way you present yourself should reinforce that message.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Learn and evolve:<\/strong> Your personal brand isn\u2019t static. Just as you grow and learn over time, your personal brand can evolve, too. The important thing is to maintain consistency between who you were and who you are becoming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Both personal image and personal brand are key tools for your professional and academic development. While image helps you make a good first impression, your personal brand is what allows you to leave a lasting impression on the people you interact with.
