If so, you have come to the right spot! I’m here to offer you five simple tips for regaining motivation and overcoming lack of enthusiasm in your studies.

To begin with, it is crucial to comprehend the essence of motivation. Personally speaking, I like to call it a driving force that gives you the energy and spirit to complete tasks and get your things done when it gets tough. Yet, remember that you cannot always rely on motivation to initiate action; if we want to see a real change, we need discipline. Here are my tips to gain motivation:

Tip Number 1: Establish a Straightforward and Efficient Routine

As students, our daily lives are filled with diverse commitments that demand our time and full attention. As a consequence of this, it is vital for people like us — who have more than one responsibility — to set a simple and manageable daily routine in order to complete all our tasks and not procrastinate. All the tasks we need to get done, as I said before, require our maximum attention and energy. In that way, if we attempt to do many things in one day, we will probably end up doing less than expected. Make sure you pursue achievable goals that you can manage to accomplish efficiently throughout the day.

Tip Number 2: Keep Track of Your Daily Achievements

From my personal experience, tracking my day-to-day progress toward achieving my goals becomes an additional motivator that pushes me forward each day, inevitably leading to a month of strong commitment to my goals. You can have a handwritten journal or an online calendar to track all tasks you successfully complete every day. This gives a sense of consistency that motivates you to keep going and stay engaged.

Tip Number 3: Design Your Environment For Success

It is key to build an environment that fosters motivation, productivity, and good habits. Try to identify and get rid of all the distractions. This can include turning off notifications on your devices or setting regular “focus” times. To keep track of your responsibilities and due dates, you can also make use of tools such as to-do lists and organizers. You are more likely to remain on top of your responsibilities in a well-organized setting. With the intention of boosting your chances of success, regularly analyze how your environment affects your productivity and make adjustments as needed.

Tip Number 4: Reward Yourself

It’s essential to have a balance between work and leisure time. Rewarding yourself by relaxing and doing activities that you love is incredibly important for you and your well-being. This can help you stay committed to your long-term goals since it provides a sense of achievement and progress. Celebrating your accomplishments, even small ones, reinforces the idea that hard work pays off, which can also boost your confidence and self-esteem. Knowing that a reward awaits you, can serve as a powerful motivator to stay focused and productive during your study sessions. It gives you something to look forward to.

Tip Number 5: Be Ambitious

When it comes to achieving our goals, ambition is the secret weapon. It’s what drives you forward and pushes you to accomplish remarkable things. I’m a firm believer that ambition and staying consistent are a dynamic duo. Being ambitious means committing to a routine that’s not disrupted by procrastination — a routine built on mastering the small yet impactful actions that drive personal and professional growth.

Individually, tiny behaviors seem pretty insignificant, such as studying for 30 minutes or reading while you are traveling. But it’s not the individual impact that makes a difference. It’s the cumulative impact of always sticking to your schedule that will carry you to long–term success.

At the end of the day, self-motivation is unreliable. Some days you feel inspired. Some days you don’t. If you want consistent change, you need to learn to keep going even though you are not interested or you don’t feel like it. By following these tips, I have no doubts that you will be able to maintain a well-balanced and effective routine. It’s important to understand that it is not necessary (or realistic) to be perfect and reach every single goal you set for yourself. With that being said, don’t overestimate yourself. We deserve to rest and relax from time to time. Start asking yourself, does this choice support the life I want? And remember, you are not missing out; you simply have different priorities than everyone else.

Sources of information/fuentes:

https://jamesclear.com/get-back-on-track

https://www.inhersight.com/blog/insight-commentary/ways-to-track-your-accomplishments

https://clockify.me/blog/productivity/keep-track-of-daily-activities/

Mora Sampaio is a freshman year global communication student, who is currently part of the digital committee of the UADE´s PRSSA Chapter in Argentina.
